Vladimír Jekl

Vladimír Jekl graduated from the University of Veterinary and Pharmaceutical Sciences Brno in 2002. He then worked at the Clinic for Diseases of Birds, Reptiles, and Small Mammals. In 2006, he earned his Ph.D. in small mammal dentistry, and in 2016, he defended his title of associate professor in the field of diseases of dogs, cats, and pets. In 2009, he became a European-recognized specialist in the field of Small Mammal Medicine and Surgery and obtained the title of "Diplomate of the European College of Zoological Medicine (Small Mammal Medicine and Surgery), which is the highest clinical title in this field in Europe. In 2014, 2019, and 2024, he repeatedly met the ECZM criteria and had his "Diplomate" title extended for another five years. In 2023, he also earned the title DACEPM (Diplomate of the American College of Exotic Pet Medicine). As a lecturer, he participates in the teaching of veterinary medicine students and postgraduate education of veterinarians in the Czech Republic, Europe, and the USA. He is the author or co-author of more than 400 publications on exotic animal medicine. He is the co-author of the books Diseases of Small Mammals, BSAVA Manual of Rodents and Ferrets, 2nd ed; BSAVA Manual of Rabbit Imaging, Surgery and Dentistry, Practical Veterinary Dental Radiography, Clinical Toxicology, and others. He is the editor of Veterinary Clinics of North America: Exotic Animal Practice – Reproduction and Veterinary Clinics of North America: Exotic Animal Practice – Respiratory Disorders.

Since September 2017, he has been co-owner of the Jekl & Hauptman Veterinary Clinic based in Brno.
